MTV Show Crasher?!

Just watching the MTV awards... And when Panic at the Disco received the Viewers Choice award, some dude jumped up on stage, grabbed the microphone and said: "MTV never gave me my own show, check out mtv6000.com." And then what looked like security jumped on stage and grabbed him. The band, Jennifer Lopez and the crowed looked surprised. Jack Black even said "not cool."

Now, I have a question mark and an exclamation point in my title because my visceral reaction was that this was a stunt, a plant by the producers to drive traffic to a site for a new show on MTV. But was it? Could some dude got access that close and by chance jumped on stage, grabbed the mic and said his piece? Well, I went to the site and guess what - I couldnt get on it. It was too busy.

I want to give the guy credit for doing what he did if it was a stunt - but I want to give MTV more credit if they planted it, didnt tell anyone and really are promoting a new show. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I've decided to categorize my entries into a few types of categories:

 

Life and Times Of An Adman - I guess this is my catch-all category. If I just have a random thought, observation or insight. I will use this bucket.

Arrgh! - This category will house my thoughts about an experience I may have had with a brand, retailer or any other organization that just drove me crazy. I guess this is my form of therapy to get it off my chest and to warn you about the evils of customer experience.

Why Didn't I Think Of That? - You know when you see or read something and immediately think, "damn, that was smart!" Especially if the idea is so simple but so effective. I seem to do this a lot so I thought having a section about it would be cool.

The Fly On The Pitch Wall. - I have worked for Ad Agencies most of my career. I have pitched hundreds of campaigns to brands you know. In these pitches, its a dance between the agency and the client to sell-in an idea. Sometimes it amazes me what the agency will say to sell through an idea. And sometimes, I see a campaign in the market and wonder what the hell was said in that pitch to get the client to buy that campaign!!! Think singing gerbil creatures from the Quiznos ad's. I will do my best to reverse engineer what the Creative Director said to the client to sell through the campaign.

What Were They Thinking? - Sometimes you see something and wonder to yourself "Why did they do this? What was their rationale? It could be anything from why Coke changed formulas to the fact that Howard Stern gets so much cash for his show on Sirius.
